There are three distinctive types of live fire shooting range designs deployed throughout the world.  They are as follows:

  • Indoor Firing Ranges
  • Outdoor Firing Ranges
  • Hybrid Firing Ranges

While all of the live fire range designs have numerous features in common, each has specific needs and concerns that must be addressed to effectively benefit the range owner, the range users and other related stakeholders. Applicable to the three general types of firing range designs listed above, there are two key training environments that can be applied to each of them.  Static, or traditional, range layouts and the more dynamic tactical range formats.  Traditional range designs are for basic weapons handling and target shooting on stationary targetry or rail systems.  Tactical shooting ranges accommodate all the capabilities of static ranges and offer the range owner much more flexibility with the available physical space.
