Tactical Range Backstop Systems

Tactical Shooting Ranges are different from static, or traditionally, designed firing range layouts in order to simulate and safely accommodate modern weapons training aspects, especially for law enforcement personnel. The most prominent feature of a tactical firing range is the overall range baffle layout.  The ceiling baffles would be lined in close proximity to each other with a typical ballistic plate overlap from 2″ up to 12″ as measured perpendicular from the horizontal plane.  Secondly, the material on the overhead range baffles, ballistic sidewalls and safety ceiling are comprised of AR-500 rated steel plating, wood fascia or ideally, include ballistic rubber materials to prevent ricochets and frag from hitting range personnel. Another key feature of a tactical range environment is the bullet trap system.  Ballistic rubber trap shooting range systems like the ELIxIR or Gel-Cor bullet trap systems are designed to shoot up close, or at various angles, within the 20′ to point blank range.  Clearly, at these distances, steel bullet traps are not well suited.  Additionally, the ballistic rubber trap systems can handle a much wider array of calibers and loads thereby providing for the most diverse training scenarios and optimizing the real estate committed to range training and personnel.
